RedHat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS)

CCNA

Red Hat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS) is a security certification that proves advanced skills in using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SELinux, and Red Hat Directory Server to meet the security requirements of today's enterprise environment. The modules for the program are built on the security skills covered in the RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) program and hence RHCE would be a prerequisite.

Red Hat Enterprise Security: Network Services (RHS333) is an intensive course that equips senior system administrators and security professionals with the skills and knowledge required to harden systems against both internal and external attacks. This class advances beyond the essential security coverage offered in the RHCE curriculum and delves more deeply into the security features, capabilities, and how to properly respond to sophisticated security threats aimed at enterprise systems. Students will also cover an in-depth analysis of the ever-changing threat models as they pertain to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

  • Mastering basic service security
  • Understanding cryptography
  • Securing BIND and DNS
  • Hardening remote procedure call (RPC) services
  • Using Kerberos for centrally managed user authentication
  • Improving Network File System (NFS) security with Kerberos and NFSv4
  • Advanced uses of Secure Shell
  • Building a secure email infrastructure
  • Securing FTP and Apache HTTPD services
  • Basics of intrusion detection and response

This course is recommended for:

  • Experienced Linux system administrators responsible for the overall security of their systems and networked services
  • Experienced Linux system administrators tasked with security on other operating systems but who now want to perform those tasks on a Red Hat Linux system
  • An RHCE interested in earning a Red Hat Certification of Expertise

Previous operating system administration experience is helpful but not required for this course.

  • The essential elements of how to configure the services covered, as this course focuses on more advanced topics
  • RHCE certification or equivalent experience

The format is performance-based, meaning that candidates must perform tasks on live systems, rather than answering questions about how one might perform those tasks. The Exam is organised into two sections:

  • Centralised Authentication Security: 3.0 hours
  • Network Service Security: 3.0 hours

The Red Hat Enterprise Directory Services and Authentication Expertise Exam is a performance-based test of the skills covered in RH423 Red Hat Enterprise Directory Services and Authentication. RH423 is designed to train people with RHCE-level competency on skills required to manage and deploy the Red Hat Directory Server. Gaining an understanding of the basic concepts, configuration, and management of LDAP-based services is central to this course.

  • Understanding basic LDAP concepts
  • Configuring and managing Red Hat Directory Server
  • Managing user authentication with PAM and glibc NSS
  • Using Kerberos and LDAP to centrally manage user authentication
  • Using LDAP referrals and replication for distributed, highly available directory server performance
  • Exploring options for integration with Microsoft Active Directory authentication

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification is required to take the exam (EX423)

The format is performance-based, meaning that candidates must perform tasks on live systems, rather than answering questions about how one might perform those tasks. The Exam is organised as follows:

  • Directory Service Configuration and User Authentication: 4.0 hours

Red Hat Enterprise SELinux Policy Administration (RHS429) introduces senior system administrators, security administrators, and application programmers to SELinux policy writing. Learn how SELinux works and how to manage, write, compile, and debug an SELinux policy. This class culminates in a major project to analyze, determine the security needs of, and design and implement a set of net-new policies for a service previously unprotected by SELinux.

  • Introduction to SELinux
  • Using SELinux
  • The Red Hat-targeted policy
  • Introduction to policies
  • Policy utilities
  • User and role security
  • Anatomy of a policy
  • Manipulating policies

This course is recommended for:

  • Experienced Linux system administrators responsible for Mandatory Access Control-based (MAC) security, or who want to harden their existing Linux system or networked services security
  • RHCEs interested in earning a Red Hat Certificate of Expertise
  • The essential elements of how to configure the services covered, as this course focuses on more advanced topics
  • RHCE certification or equivalent experience

The format is performance-based, meaning that candidates must perform tasks on live systems, rather than answering questions about how one might perform those tasks. The Exam is organised into two sections:

  • SELinux Policy Writing: 2.5 hours
  • Targeted Policy System Maintenance: 1.0 hours
